We’re pleased to announce that we’re signing-off on another great year of fundraising for our annual CSR programme, Repay the eNett Way.
Repay the eNett Way aims to improve and shine a light on the challenges faced by underprivileged communities in high-tourism growth areas. This year, the programme focused on supporting ethical and sustainable eco-tourism, by working with Thai communities and mahouts (elephant carers) to aid elephant care. To do this effectively, we partnered with The Care Project Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that aims to promote the conservation and welfare of the Asian elephant and reduce human-elephant conflict.
Each year, our employees carry out a variety of fundraising activities to raise funds for the chosen cause. This year, despite the obvious challenges of having the whole team working from home, we managed to raise over USD17,000, including the company matching employees contributions, dollar-for-dollar. To do this, our people became more creative than ever before by hosting virtual trivia events, guess-who tournaments, cocktail making competitions and more, all held over zoom calls. When government-imposed restrictions were eased in some regions, our team also managed to host their annual ‘Repay-ride’. The team smashed their goal to 'virtually' cover the 680KM between Bangkok and Chiang Mai, and ended up cycling a combined total of 3,600KM. With participants from Mexico, Denver, the UK and Australia participating, it was a fantastic achievement.
The funds raised were put to good use in supporting the elephants and their caretakers who were forced to vacate their places of employment and left strand due to the impact of coronavirus, as well as contributing to various medicine and food for the elephants. In addition, the funds raised will be put towards building a fully functional elephant hospital for the elephants in the area, which will provide ongoing support in the years to come.
It has meant a lot to our business to be able to continue support of the travel industry, through our CSR programme, especially with all that has happened in 2020. We’re proud of our team who banded together whilst working from home to continue with their fundraising initiatives. And we’re grateful to have partnered with the Care Project Foundation, a wonderful organisation who helped us make a real difference to the communities that look after the elephants and support long term change in an ever-popular travel destination.
