In a nutshell, how would you define your role at eNett?
My role at eNett is to lead a team responsible for nurturing a number of our global strategic accounts, being the interface between them and eNett for all commercial and product requirements. Our aim is to support them where possible as they grow in both new and existing markets ensuring the payment process is as seamless as possible.
What do you love most about your job?
I love to interact with people face to face. I also love the travel opportunities that come with my role, so that I can experience different cultures and learn from the different ways in which companies do business. I am very fortunate that eNett allows me to do this. Working at eNett has assisted my learning and development in travel payments, and the pace that our industry and eNett moves is hugely exciting and certainly keeps me energized.
How have the Government imposed restrictions during the pandemic affected your job?
Normally I would take on average 30 international business trips a year, so the biggest change and challenge for me has been the amount of time spent at home. And, like most people around the world, having to adapt to doing meetings via video conference. Whilst this has worked well and will continue to be used, I still believe the most effective way of working is through face to face meetings.
What has your team been doing differently to help support customers during this time?
When the pandemic began, the travel industry was heavily impacted due to government-imposed restrictions. Because of this, our customers became quickly swamped in dealing with their customers’ requests for refunds for cancelled travel plans. So, a large focus for my team and I over the past few months has been to support them with a high number of refunds and chargebacks. Now that our industry is beginning to recover, our focus and attention has returned to assisting with our customer’s market expansion and optimization. Which is very exciting. As countries started to lift its restrictions and open its borders, we have seen real positive signs that the recovery is well underway with short haul travel and staycations leading the way.
What have you been doing with your new-found down-time during the recent lockdowns?
Embracing the time at home spending a lot of it in the garden – we’ve had a really good summer here in London. Having the opportunity to have lunch everyday with my wife and child has been great. An extremely proud moment for me was to recently watch my four-year-old son ride his bike after only taking 7 days of me teaching him.
What is something you’ve learnt over the past few months that you will take into ‘post-COVID’ life?
I’m normally a very positive person, but the lack of face to face interaction with team members and peers, mixed in with the various pressures of the global pandemic, there has been a number of times where it has felt quite hard. So for me, what I have learnt is the importance of keeping a positive mindset. Positive thinking usually leads to positive outcomes, something we hope for our with industry and customers.
